After changing owners several times, the Land Rover product line is now the property of multinational corporation, Tata Motors Ltd. of India. The Land Rover brand has continued to shine in its excellent off-road capabilities as well as its distinct design and elegance. It has been known to balance both worlds effortlessly and has become an automobile industry icon.

A History of Off-Road Durability

The Land Rover name has its origins in the United Kingdom. Maurice Wilks was inspired by the old Willys MB American war Jeep that he used during his stay in their farm in Anglesey to create a civilian off-road vehicle. The "Centre Steer" as he called it had a steering wheel in the middle and was a hybrid of Rover and Jeep parts. It was the start of a long line of Land Rover products, most still functioning today.

The Land Rover name has been known for the durability, functionality and elegance of their products. 1970 marked the birth of the Range Rover, placing it as one of the most popular among these iconic off-road vehicles.

So far, there have been three generations of Range Rovers. In the first generation, the vehicles gave rise to the Range Rover name and product line, only being distinguished as the "Range Rover Classic" during its later years. The "P38A" name was given to the second major generation of the Range Rover line to differentiate it from the classic. The Range Rover L322 is today's generation of Land Rover's quality off-road utility vehicles.

Continuously Growing and Evolving

The current L322 models were unveiled last year in the 2009 New York Auto Show. Land Rover has not failed in mixing their traditional innovations and modern day gadgets to deliver a complete, driver-centered package suitable for use in harsh roads or posh establishments.

On the outside, a few subtle improvements have been made to enhance the look of the Range Rover L322 series. Among those receiving a facelift are the car's grille, rear bumper, LED headlights as well as the LED taillights.

The performance overhauls are also worth noticing. Under the hood improvements include two brand new engines to increase fuel efficiency, a monocoque structural frame construction to enhance handling as well as a four corner suspension that allows a specialized adjustment in ride height depending on the terrain.

Manual transmission is no more, and is permanently replaced by automatic transmission. An LCD located in front of the driver replaces all older gauges giving a more detailed and tailored display depending on the car functions being used at a specific time.

Minimizing driving hazards is the bi-directional screen fitted into the car's centre console. The unit is capable of showing two different displays depending on the user's viewing angle so a driver can focus on road-relevant displays while his passenger can watch a DVD on the go.

An impressive multi camera system courtesy of the Irish company Valeo Vision Systems is also equipped into the vehicle. It contains multiple overlays and views, giving the driver a detailed visual around the vehicle and minimizing potential accidents.
